Where we stand this MiLB offseason

Though the 2017 Minor League Baseball season is a few months away, there’s plenty of baseball cap-related news out and on the horizon. New teams are arriving and several others are rebranding, leading to new caps aplenty! Here’s where we stand now:

-The Atlanta Braves’ Single-A affiliate, formerly the Brevard County Manatees, have moved to Kissimmee and renamed themselves the Florida Fire Frogs (see above). The team has released four on-field caps for next season:

-The Lynchburg Hillcats, after opting to keep that name, introduced a new logo and team colors, along with three new caps for 2017.

-The Jacksonville Suns unveiled a completely new and crustacean look for 2017, renaming the team the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp, with some pretty unique logos for their caps:

-The Down East Wood Ducks, a new team in the Carolina League, revealed their name, with a logo and uniforms on the way.

-The Binghamton Mets revealed today that they’ll be playing as the Binghamton Rumble Ponies in 2017, showing off an incredible set of new logos. Design firm Brandiose also provided the first look at the team’s caps for next season:

-The New Orleans Zephyrs will show off their new name on Nov. 15. Options in a fan vote earlier this year included Baby Cakes, Crawfish, King Cakes, Night Owls, Po’boys, Red Eyes and Tailgators.

-The Staten Island Yankees are rebranding in 2017, with an official announcement coming in the near future. Potential names include Pizza Rats, Rock Pigeons, Heroes, Killer Bees and Bridge Trolls. Let’s hope their Cannoli Appreciation Night caps return next season, no matter the team name.

-There’s still a second Carolina League team, the Houston Astros affiliate, to be revealed,. Most reports, including MiLB.com’s Benjamin Hill, pegged Fayetteville, N.C. as the likely destination.
